Luna - Lake Village - Montrose - Mist - Snyder - Hamburg - Crossett

In 1898 the Mississippi River, Hamburg & Western Railroad connected with steamboat lines on the Mississippi river at Luna Landing (just north of Lake Village) and built west through Lake Village, Montrose, Snyder, Mist and on to Hamburg.* Later extended to Crossett.

Some of the early station agents in Montrose who worked for the St Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railway, later the Missouri Pacific were William Guise, Mr. & Mrs. U. E. Barker, Murray Streeter, Mr. Brislair, Marvin Watson. Later in the 1940s, G. A. (Bob) Austin and Lee Simpson were also agents there.

Murray S. Streeter, a Missouri Pacific train dispatcher, agent and telegrapher was born just north of Snyder, Ark and took his first train ride on the "Mississippi River, Hamburg & Western Railroad" in 1910. Quoted from a memo he wrote "The MRH&W RR was built in the 1890's my first train ride in 1912 from Snyder to Luna then steamboat Luna to Greenville Miss 13 miles down river thence C&G RR to Eupora Miss then covered wagon 18 miles north to uncle Tom Streeters farm for two weeks vacation"

A copy of an old "Mississippi River, Hamburg & Western Railroad" timetable dated Sept. 15, 1902, preserved by Murray Streeter, is shown to the left.

The MRH&W RR ceased service between Montrose and Lake Village in 1932 but still continued from Montrose to Hamburg and Crossett.*

At some date in the early part of the 1900s, after 1912, the MR,H&W RR was absorbed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
