Missouri Pacific Historical Society "Calendar" Index - 2001

2001 Calendar Front Cover PHOTO C by Virgil G Knopp Texas and Pacific 0833rfa became T&P 3132 during the 1974 renumbering to better show the operating department what horsepower was assigned to trains and what was on the service tracks. SD40-2's were used initially on the MoPac's piggyback trains between Chicago, St Louis, Dallas and El Paso corridors.

2001 Calendar January PHOTO C GP-12 number MP1080fl was originally built in February 1955 as MP4512. Missouri Pacific renumbered the engine in 1962 to MP0985. When John German came over to the MoPac from the Great Northern Railroad one of the first tasks he undertook was to standardize the locomotive fleet with EMD power. As a result the RS-3's were rebuilt with EMD 567 engines and designated GP-12's.

2001 Calendar February PHOTO C Missouri Pacific EMD E7 MP7016rf waiting between assignments on the Ewing Avenue St Louis, MO service tracks . The style of the numbers on the number boards and the removal of the coupler doors would place this photo in the middle to late 1950's.

2001 Calendar March PHOTO B&W coll C Duckworth This builders photo of Iron Mountain locomotive No. 1255 IM1255r shows a work horse just waiting to go to work. The 2-8-2 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, PA USA. Build date is not readable in this photo.

2001 Calendar April PHOTO B&W coll Union Pacific Missouri Pacific heavy 2-8-2 MP1533rfa on the head end of a long merchandise freight coming into the North Little Rock, AR across the Barring Cross Bridge during World War II.

2001 Calendar May PHOTO C Missouri Pacific SD40-2 MP3243rf was built in September, 1978 and part of a group of turbocharged 3000 horsepower units. It was later converted to a "B" unit (by UP) following removal of the appliance equipment. The second engine in the photo appears to have a road number MP60xx. This series engine was designated SD40-2c. The "c" denoting use for coal service. These units were equipped with dynamic braking. The photo location is unknown.

2001 Calendar June PHOTO B&W by Joe Collias coll C Duckworth Missouri Pacific 4-6-2 Pacific MP6621rfa is working hard as it moves away from the Hot Springs, AR depot in February, 1951 and begins to increase speed.

2001 Calendar July PHOTO C Texas & Pacific TP0501fl was delivered in May 1960 as TP1146. Originally T&P road units were delivered in 'Swamp Holly' orange and black but the railroad decided in 1959 to standardize their paint standards to the Eagle Blue and Grey as used on their F7's, E7's and E8's.

2001 Calendar August PHOTO B&W coll Charlie Winters NOT&M2618es under NO&LC ownership photographed at Algiers, LA on May 6, 1950. The caboose color scheme was unique only to the NO&LC, borrowed from the MoP's 1927 standards. Colonial yellow top, chocolate brown below with black buzzsaw logo.

2001 Calendar September PHOTO B&W by R J Fairbanks coll Paul Thurman Missouri Pacific SD40-2 MP3257rfa along with other units leads a train at East Bridge Junction at Metairie, LA in July, 1981.

2001 Calendar October PHOTO B&W coll Union Pacific A World War II view of Yard "C" at Dupo, IL. The solid tracks of tank cars shown in the background were a result of the oil companies moving the transportation of oil from tanker ships to rail after numerous ship sinkings by German U-boats off the Atlantic coast early in the war. The box car converted to a caboose was an emergency measure when the Missouri Pacific found itself short of cabooses. 0-8-0 MP9740flo NOT&M2895eso.

2001 Calendar November PHOTO C by Michael Osweller Missouri Pacific GP38-2 MP2327rf w/MP2224rf shown on the job in August 1982 in Lincoln, NE. MP 2327 was built July 1981 and was part of the last purchase by the MoPac GP38-2 units.

2001 Calendar December PHOTO B&W coll C Duckworth St Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway StLIM&S0634 became MP2706 in the December 1905 renumbering. The locomotive was mainline power when it was delivered to the Iron Mountain in 1889 but ended its career on the MoPac branch lines. Sister engine #2707 can still be seen at the National Museum of Transportation in St Louis, MO.

2001 Calendar Inside Back PHOTO B&W coll C Duckworth Above is a photo of the 194 foot by 24 foot brick station at Monroe, LA. The doorway to the left of the photo was access to the Express Room, the middle area contained the ticket office with the white and colored waiting rooms on either side. The doorway on the right of this photo was access to the baggage room.

2001 Calendar Back Cover PHOTO C by A R Smith Missouri Pacific GP38-2 MP2083r is caught on film performing switching operations at the west end of Odessa, TX in March, 1989.
