Lomax Depot Model built by Charlie Duckworth.

Charlie Duckworth's Structures of the Bagnell, Missouri Branch

Charlie has had a relationship with the railroad he loves, long before the MPHS even existed.

In April 1974, Charlie took a job on the MoPac working as a trackman on the Western District's tie gang based out of Hoisington, Kansas. It was hard work under the sweltering prairie sun for the young college student. It was only to be temporay summer job, but he stayed on with the railroad and has quite a many tales to tell from those years.

You can read much more of Charlie's own personal recollections - he wrote the excellent "Taking a Motorcar to Work" for the Summer 2002 Eagle, soon available through the MPHS Store.

Depot Modeling Inspiration
"I worked in and around Lomax in 1974 while on the Mopac's M/W department.  Lomax was not an agency but was still open for the B&B, signalmen and MoW gangs to talk to the dispatchers or operators through a company telephone.

"For the shingles I used a product from American Model Builders.  I painted them a base coat of medium grey then dusted them with a black, white and brown paint to get a grainy effect.  When you put them down on the building they standout due to the variation in colors.  The end pieces are the shingles wrapped over an Evergreen round styrene shape.
