MPHS - Who We Are

The purpose of the Missouri Pacific Historical Society is to preserve the rich history of the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

We publish a quarterly magazine called The EAGLE, which all members receive or which can be purchased at selected hobby shops.

We have an acitve, robust membership with members from around the world.   Our primary objective is to cover the Missouri Pacific Railroad and all of its predecessors.

A Brief History

The Missouri Pacific Historical Society, Inc. was organized in 1980 for the purpose of obtaining, preserving and sharing information and material relating to the Missouri Pacific Railroad and its subsidiaries to the society's members and others.   The current MPHS is an outgrowth of a prior group which ran from 1974 to 1977.   The society's area of interest include not only the Missouri Pacific Railroad, past to present, but its predecessor railroads including Texas & Pacific; Chicago & Eastern Illinois (after the 1968 merger); St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico; International Great Northern; Gulf Coast Lines; St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern; New Orleans, Texas and Mexico; and the Missouri-Illinois.

Since its beginning, the Society has seen steady growth with members nationwide and overseas.   It is a not-for-profit corporation charted in the state of Missouri.   Memberships are available to anyone interested in the Missouri Pacific story.

Annual meetings began in 1981 and are rotated throughout the Missouri Pacific system as feasible.   In addition to the society's business, varied programs covering the Missouri Pacific and its history are given for the benefit of those attending.
See MPHS Conventions.

The society publishes an illustrated quarterly magazine of each membership year.   Each issue of the EAGLE contains current news and articles of historical interest.   Rosters of equipment, technical information and data, and modeling projects are just a few of many items of interest published along with the business of the society.   All members are urged to contribute material for publication.   Memberships of all classes include a subscription to the EAGLE.   A 12 month calendar is published annually as well.
See the EAGLE Magazine.

The Missouri Pacific Historical Society is in no way officially connected with the Missouri Pacific Railroad, its predecessors or successors.

Brief History of the MPHS Archives Caboose

MP 13546 is an Extended-Vision caboose built by International Car in January 1972.   It performed on the system until it's retirement in March, 1988, when it was then moved to it's current location at the St. Louis Museum of Transport, home to some other preserved MoPac equipment.   After restoration was complete, the MPHS Archives were moved inside the caboose, where it continues to operate today.
